Kitesufing and jumping

By far one of the easiest moves you can make during a beginner class in kitesurfing is the exhilarating jump. There is no other feeling like it in the world, letting both the air and waves set you afloat in mid-air. The hardest part to performing any jump is the landing. During your initial training period with a certified instructor you will learn the pros and cons of jumping while kitesurfing.

One of the first moves you will probably learn is the jump. A jump can be performed several different ways. Once you have reached a comfortable speed and plain, start to reel in the kite to begin lifting your board upward. Turn the kite quickly overhead as it begins to ascend bring up the front of the board. You can actually use your back foot to pitch the board at about a 60-degree angle and push up hard. Your body should be crouched with your knees bent. The lift and power from the board and kite will send you soaring into the air. Depending on how much power you create will determine the lift and hang time.

Once you have achieved the peak jump, you will need to keep the board nose slightly tilted and have your knees bent to achieve the impact without a crash. There are many variations of jumps you can create and perform with certified instructors. The conditions that matter the most are the wind velocity and speed on the water if you can maintain a high rate of speed and keep the lift on a good angle you can reach 10 – 20 feet no problem. Remember that the higher you go up the harder you will come down. Keep your bar attached firmly gripped in-hand and get ready for impact.

Remember to try to place your board between waves and chops so your board will slice through the plain instead of crash downward. Make sure you practice jumps in designated areas away from swimmers and other kitesurfers.
